A hop through Bangkok to Chaing Mai.
A smooth flight from Melbourne and we landed in the ultra modern looking Bangkok Int. airport.
A kilometre or travelators later and we connected with Thai airlines once more for an hour flight to Chaing Mai. Have checked into our hotel after a whirlwind private transfer from the airport. A host called Jan gave us an abbreviated history of almost everything to do with Thailand and its culture. We couldn't break eye contact long enough to take in the narrow streets of Chaing Mai as they streaked past. Her driver deposited us safely at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel and after some delicious lemon teas and more information and pamphlets from Jan we ordered lunch in our rooms, showered and are resting before seeing what the afternoon holds. The boys thought it was great that pancakes with maple syrup and trimming, delivered to the room was just a tad over $2.00. Nice.
More as it happens.

Nothing to see here, just silliness at the airport.

Chiang Mai from the 8th floor of the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel. The smog is from farmers burning their field to promote new growth. |
Night markets.
Had a really fantastic Thai/Indian dinner at a place called One World very close to the hotel, then our path back home became a bustling street market with every side alley crammed with tiny stalls. We walked for ages and bartered for trinkets until we could haggle no more. Everyone is bedded down now and I am about to sign off as tomorrow promises to be very interesting and I want us all to be in high spirits for our trek into the mountains of Chiang Mai.More as it happens.
